Shocking Murder Near Thanjavur
A 38-year-old BJP woman leader, B. Saranya, was brutally murdered and beheaded near Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, on Monday night. She was attacked by an armed group while walking home after work.
Victim’s Past Political Incident
Saranya was known for a 2022 protest, where she was accused of throwing footwear at Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan’s car near Madurai. She was arrested at the time but later released on bail.
Murder Linked to Family Conflict
According to police, the killing was not related to politics. Instead, it was caused by a family dispute. Saranya’s stepson Kapilan and two others have confessed to the murder and surrendered to the police.
Details of the Attack
Saranya lived with her husband Balan in Udayasuriyapuram village and ran a small photocopy shop. On Monday around 9 PM, she closed her shop and walked home. She was stopped by a gang, attacked with weapons, and beheaded. Her body was found a short distance from her house.
Who Were the Killers?
On Tuesday, three men—Kapilan, Parthiban, and Gugan—surrendered at a court in Madurai. Police said Kapilan, Saranya’s stepson, was angry because she refused to divide her husband’s property with him. This led to the murder.
BJP Leader Reacts
Vanathi Srinivasan, national president of BJP Mahila Morcha and MLA from Coimbatore South, expressed her shock. On X (formerly Twitter), she said, “Crimes against women are rising in Tamil Nadu. This shows that criminals do not fear the current government.”
