The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in Wokha has confirmed cases of pig mortality due to African Swine Fever (ASF) in the Doyang Right Bank Farm area. ASF is a highly contagious disease in pigs, posing serious economic risks to farmers and the agricultural sector.

In response to this outbreak, local authorities are enforcing strict containment measures under Section 6(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infection and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act of 2009. These measures include:

  • Movement Restrictions: All movement of pigs and pork products is prohibited within a 1 km radius of the infected zone.
  • Slaughter and Sale Ban: The slaughter and sale of pigs and pork are also banned in the same area to prevent further spread of the disease.
  • Surveillance Zone: A surveillance zone extending 9 km beyond the infected area will be actively monitored to detect any additional cases.
  • Dead Animal Disposal: Proper disposal methods, including deep burial or incineration, are mandated for dead animals within the infected zone.

All Village Councils are advised to stay alert and report any suspected cases of ASF to the nearest Veterinary Office. These proactive measures are crucial in controlling the outbreak and protecting the local pig population.
