Nagaland’s ILR Enforcement Boosted Through NSF and APO Coordination Meeting

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) held a coordination meeting with the Angami Public Organization (APO) and its affiliated bodies at APO headquarters, Kohima to discuss strategies for strengthening the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) in Nagaland. The meeting is part of NSF’s ongoing campaign to enforce the Inner Line Pass (ILP) system and address growing concerns

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) held a coordination meeting with the Angami Public Organization (APO) and its affiliated bodies at APO headquarters, Kohima to discuss strategies for strengthening the Inner Line Regulation (ILR) in Nagaland.

The meeting is part of NSF’s ongoing campaign to enforce the Inner Line Pass (ILP) system and address growing concerns over the unchecked influx of non-indigenous migrants into the Naga homeland.


Collective Responsibility to Protect Naga Identity

APO president Theja-o Vihienuo opened the session, emphasizing the shared responsibility to safeguard the identity, security, and demographic balance of the indigenous Naga people.

He highlighted that preserving Naga land and culture requires coordinated community action and vigilance.


NSF Outlines ILR Objectives and Challenges

NSF’s Inner Line Regulation Committee (ILRC) member K. Andrew Yhome presented a detailed overview of the NSF-led ILR campaign.

In his keynote, NSF president Mteisuding discussed the key challenges and systemic gaps hindering effective ILP enforcement in Nagaland. He stressed that strengthening ILR mechanisms is not just an administrative need but a historical and moral obligation to protect Naga rights, land, and future generations.


Recommendations for Effective ILP Enforcement

ILRC chairman NSN Lotha called for immediate government action on NSF’s recommendations, including:

  • Setting up ILP checkpoints at Dimapur Airport and Railway Station

  • Implementing strict monitoring and enforcement mechanisms

  • Enhancing community awareness and ILR sensitization programs

He also urged the APO and its affiliated organizations to provide active support and cooperation for the initiative.


APO Commits to Systematic ILR Action

APO president Vihienuo informed attendees that the organization has formed a core committee on ILP to address ILR concerns systematically.

He highlighted the importance of youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, aiming to reduce dependence on migrant labor and reinforce local resilience.


Support from Women and Student Organizations

The Angami Women Organization (AWO), led by president Neithono R. Sothu, pledged full support for the ILR campaign, recognizing the vital role of Naga women in community vigilance and social responsibility.

The Angami Students’ Union (ASU), under president Diezevisie Nakhro, commended NSF for its proactive approach and reiterated its commitment to preserving Naga identity, culture, and security.


Unified Commitment to Strengthen ILR

The meeting concluded with all participating organizations agreeing to collaborate closely to strengthen ILR enforcement in Nagaland.

NSF expressed appreciation to APO and its frontal bodies for their solidarity and dedication to protecting the Naga homeland.
