Nagaland’s Medal Tally: A Strong Performance
Nagaland’s athletes showcased their talent by winning a total of 34 medals, which included:
- 🏅 10 Gold
- 🥈 8 Silver
- 🥉 16 Bronze
Although Nagaland performed exceptionally well, Assam topped the rankings with 22 gold, 19 silver, and 25 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Manipur secured third place with 8 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals.
Fair Play and High Standards in the Competition
The Indian Pencak Silat Federation, along with national and international referees, ensured fair judgment throughout the event. Experienced officials from Northeast states played a crucial role in maintaining the tournament’s integrity and professionalism.
Government’s Commitment to Sports Development
During the opening ceremony, Nagaland’s Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, MLA S Keoshu Yimkhiung, praised the athletes for their hard work and dedication in national and regional competitions.
“This achievement is a major milestone for Nagaland’s sporting history. The government is committed to providing better training and infrastructure to support our athletes and help them excel in martial arts,” he said.
Key Dignitaries Present at the Event
The tournament witnessed the presence of several prominent sports officials, including:
✔️ Alexander Thomas, Vice-President of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation and Daman & Diu Olympic Association (Special Guest).
✔️ Kuputo Shohe, Joint Secretary of the Nagaland Olympic Association.
The closing ceremony was led by Kethosituo Sekhose, Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland, who awarded medals and cash prizes to the winners.
“These medalists will carry the pride of our state as they compete at the national level,” he added.
Nagaland Athletes Qualify for National Championship
According to the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association (NPSA), this event served as a qualifying tournament for the ASMITA Khelo India National Pencak Silat Women’s League in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, from April 6-8, 2025. The top-performing athletes from Nagaland will now compete at the national level, aiming for greater achievements.
ASMITA Khelo India: Encouraging Women in Sports
The ASMITA Khelo India initiative, launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). It aims to:
