Bangladesh has summoned India’s high commissioner to protest recent demonstrations and vandalism targeting its diplomatic offices and visa centres in India.

Dhaka Expresses Serious Security Concerns

On Tuesday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called in Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma in Dhaka.
The ministry raised concerns over violent incidents near the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.

Officials said protests took place outside the mission and the ambassador’s residence on December 20.
Later, miscreants damaged the Bangladesh Visa Centre in Siliguri on December 22.

Bangladesh described these acts as planned and unacceptable.

Bangladesh Condemns Attacks on Diplomatic Missions

The foreign ministry strongly condemned the violence against its diplomatic properties.
It said such acts endanger diplomats and violate international diplomatic rules.

The ministry stressed that these incidents harm the values of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.

Bangladesh urged India to investigate the incidents quickly and ensure full protection for diplomatic staff and buildings.

India Responds to Bangladesh’s Concerns

India’s External Affairs Ministry confirmed that a protest took place in New Delhi.
However, it said 20 to 25 protesters gathered briefly before police dispersed them.

Indian officials said the government remains committed to protecting foreign missions.
They also claimed that some reports in Bangladeshi media were misleading.

Bangladesh rejected this claim and said the incidents were real and serious.

Political Unrest Deepens Diplomatic Tensions

The diplomatic row comes as Bangladesh faces internal unrest.
Protests erupted after the killing of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

He died after being shot during the launch of his campaign for February’s parliamentary elections.
His death sparked nationwide protests, arson, and property damage.

Some protesters accused external involvement and demanded justice.

Visa Services Suspended Due to Safety Risks

Amid rising tensions, Bangladesh suspended visa and consular services at its mission in New Delhi.
At the same time, the Indian Visa Application Centre in Chattogram halted operations.

Officials cited security concerns at diplomatic locations.

Fresh Protests Held Outside Bangladesh Mission

On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters gathered near Bangladesh’s High Commission in New Delhi.
They protested the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu factory worker in Bangladesh.

A mob lynched the 27-year-old in Mymensingh district over blasphemy allegations.
Bangladeshi authorities have arrested at least 10 suspects in the case.

During the protest, demonstrators clashed with police and tried to cross barricades.
Some burned images and raised calls to boycott Bangladesh.

Similar protests took place in other Indian cities and parts of Kashmir.

India-Bangladesh Relations Face New Pressure

The latest events have added fresh strain to India-Bangladesh relations.
Experts say both sides must avoid escalation and focus on dialogue and diplomacy.

They warn that continued unrest could harm regional stability and bilateral cooperation.
