Universal Music India is bringing back the magic of Bollywood’s timeless songs with a new project. After releasing soundtracks for Param Sundari, Songs of Paradise, and Ufff Yeh Siyapaa, the label is now focusing on its iconic Bollywood catalogue.

Vinyl Comeback and a Fresh Digital Push

In July, Universal reissued several Bollywood classics on vinyl records through a deal with distributor Basking Shark. Now, it is pushing forward with a Hindi web series that reimagines evergreen hits for today’s listeners.

Ek Aur Baar Kishore Kumar: A New Experience

The weekly show, called Ek Aur Baar Kishore Kumar, features 11 episodes. Each episode reworks one of Kishore Kumar’s greatest songs.

  • Engineers used modern audio tools to extract Kumar’s original vocals.

  • Current singers recorded new parts to create virtual duets with him.

  • Veteran composer Shamir Tandon handled the music and added new lyrics to match today’s context.

Singer Amit Kumar, Kishore’s son, guided the project to keep it authentic.

Tracks Released So Far

Since August, Universal has released three songs from the series:

  • Saagar Kinare (Saagar, 1985) with folk star Mame Khan

  • Jaane Jaan (Jawani Diwani, 1972) with Amit Kumar and Harshdeep Kaur

  • Aisa Kabhi Hua Nahin (Yeh Vaada Raha, 1982) with Neeti Mohan

Connecting With Fans Offline

Universal is also taking the idea offline. It will host karaoke nights under its Fan Social series. These events will run between September 22 and 28 in Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Indore, and Pune.

The goal is to help fans relive Kishore Kumar’s golden era and bring his voice to a younger crowd.

Why It Matters

Kishore Kumar’s classics are still popular at concerts, TV shows, and tribute events. Many new artists cover his songs even today. The challenge for Universal is to see how these reworked versions perform on streaming platforms, where the audience is younger.

By mixing nostalgia with innovation, Universal hopes to introduce Kishore Kumar to Gen-Z and Gen Alpha while keeping his legacy alive.
