The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) joined a nationwide protest on April 16. The protest was organized by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against the alleged misuse of central agencies by the ruling BJP-led government. The protest highlighted claims of using central agencies for political vendetta against opposition leaders.
The event took place at Congress Bhavan in Kohima and Dimapur, with the latter organized by the District Congress Committee (DCC) Dimapur.
Accusations Against the BJP Government
At the Kohima protest, S. Supongmeren Jamir, Nagaland’s lone Member of Parliament and NPCC President, condemned the BJP-led government. He stated that Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal are defending the rights of minorities and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). According to Jamir, the central government is trying to distract from these issues. Despite this, the Congress remains focused on serving the people.
Allegations of Targeting Congress and Media
Khriedi Theunuo, NPCC Working President, accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of attempting to shut down National Herald, a publication that represents the voice of the people. He expressed concerns over the government’s efforts to silence opposition voices, including Congress and media outlets.
In Dimapur, C Apok Jamir, another NPCC Working President, emphasized the protest was part of a larger movement to protect democracy. He criticized the RSS and BJP for eroding democratic principles and selectively using the ED to target Congress without evidence. Jamir added that Congress supports the poor, minorities, and marginalized groups.
Peaceful Conclusion and Renewed Commitment
The protest ended peacefully. Congress leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue fighting for justice, democracy, and the welfare of the Indian people.
