Governor La Ganesan Commemorates India’s Victory and Honours War Heroes

On December 16, 2024, Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan led the commemorative Vijay Diwas ceremony at the Zakhama Military Station, organized by the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army. The event marked the 53rd anniversary of India’s decisive victory over Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, which ultimately led to the creation of Bangladesh.

Wreath Laying at Orchid War Memorial

The ceremony began with a solemn wreath-laying at the Orchid War Memorial, where Governor La Ganesan paid tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for India’s security and freedom.

Cultural Performances and Tribute to War Heroes

The students of Loyola School, Zakhama, presented a vibrant display of traditional culture through a captivating Galo dance and an emotional mime performance. The event also featured an exhilarating Khukri dance performed by soldiers, reflecting their bravery and steadfastness.

In a heartfelt gesture, the Governor honoured the veterans of the 1971 Indo-Pak War, as well as the parents of Captain N. Kenguruse, a Kargil War hero, who was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra. The Governor also paid tribute to the Veer Naris (war widows) from Nagaland.

A Day to Remember India’s Victory

The Vijay Diwas celebrations marked India’s historic victory over Pakistan, which led to the surrender of approximately 93,000 Pakistani soldiers and the liberation of East Pakistan. The day is a reminder of India’s courage and triumph during a significant period in its history.

This event was also an opportunity for the Governor to engage with serving soldiers and their families, reinforcing the bond between India’s armed forces and the nation.
